About Us
St. John’s Episcopal/Anglican Church
St. John's Episcopal/Anglican church is located in Mount Rainier, Maryland, a city located between Hyattsville and Bladensburg on the District of Columbia’s (DC) northeast border. It is a vibrant, diverse, multicultural congregation which has seen dramatic changes over the last twenty five years of its over-100-year history.
St. John’s has embraced the wide range of cultures and peoples which make up this part of Maryland and Northeast DC. Many churches, out of fear of change, would have barricaded themselves in and bolted the doors, but St. John’s has embraced the change in that the congregation has evolved to reflect the demographics of the community.
We are an Episcopal church, which means, first, we are followers of Jesus Christ, our Lord, and we believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and second, we belong to a denomination that follows a liturgical tradition of worship based on the Book of Common Prayer. The Episcopal Church in the USA is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
We uphold the Bible. It is our foundation, understood through tradition and reason, containing all things necessary for salvation. Our worship is filled with Scripture from beginning to end.
